Goodnight, Suite RISC...

It'll probably come as no surprise that Adobe is following Apple's lead & going Intel-only with the next generation of the Creative Suite. That is, CS4 is the last version that'll run on PowerPC-based Macs. You can read the details in the FAQ on [...] Update: The Lightroom team has confirmed that the next Mac version of LR will be Intel-only.

This means for PPC users, the best time to buy [CS4] is the day CS5 is announced. Buy the full version or boxed educational version and apply for the free CS5 upgrade. Then sell the upgrade to cover the CS4 cost. Of course, this works perfectly if you don't intend to use CS5 and wait for CS6.

According to Adobe Systems, the suite upgrade only works if you are the registered user of a previous (one version prior to the new one) version of CS suite. If you are single-product user, then it covers three versions prior. For example, CS5 is released and you are a licensed user of CS2, CS3, and CS4. This means you can sell the CS4 single-product package for $$$ and still have the right to use CS5.

Don't miss this opportunity.
